WIRED featured Ribbon in a story about candidates interviewing after midnight. The reason is simple: for many people, that is when life finally gets quiet.

WIRED featured Ribbon in a story about the rise of the 1am job interview.
This is a real, hard trend that Ribbon is driving.
In the data Ribbon shared with WIRED, a quarter of interviews took place between 10pm and 2am local time. For manufacturing roles, it was more than 35%.
The answer is pretty ordinary: candidates are busy.
For many parents, the first quiet 30 minutes arrive after the kids are asleep. Shift workers cannot step away from a factory floor or kitchen for a recruiter call. People looking for a job while they already have one may not want to interview from their current workplace.
A recruiter calendar gives those candidates a narrow set of options. Ribbon can conduct a structured first interview when they are actually available, even if that is late at night.
A 1am interview is not evidence that candidates love staying up late. It is evidence that the hiring process can finally fit around their lives.
That flexibility is one of the things we are proudest of building. A candidate can take the first step when they have the time and privacy to do it properly. The hiring team still reviews the interview and decides who moves forward.
For high-volume employers, that means every applicant can get a real first conversation without asking recruiters to spend their entire day on phone screens. For candidates, it means a calendar conflict does not have to end the process before it begins.
The WIRED story also captures the skepticism many candidates feel about AI interviews. That should not be brushed aside. People should know when they are speaking with AI, what the interview is assessing, and how their answers will be used.
The goal is not to hide a hiring decision inside a score. It is to give the hiring team structured evidence while making the first interview available to more people.
The 1am job interview sounds unusual because hiring has always been organized around office hours. For parents, shift workers, and anyone searching while already employed, it may be the most practical time of the day.
